B7-KerrAvon actually wrote a long and very good fic based on this premise.

Not sure if I wrote this before or not, but if I did I apologise. I have a theory that perhaps the gene is tuned into certian areas the person is. Like Carson is a medical doctor...perhaps his gene would work more effectively on medical equipment & the like. John could use the chair and other defense machinary more effectively because he was tuned into defending due to his training in the military. Basically the gene understands what the person does.
Does this make any sense.
Granted the theory has one flaw and that is how John can easily work almost anything on Atlantis...

Mari, I'd agree with your assessment about the negative reinforcement. I think something really awful happened even before he first sat in that chair in Antarctica, and he's been convinced ever since that awful things will continue to happen anytime he gets near Ancient tech. And yes, I think that the way he's been pushed to activate weapons systems and other such things has a lot to do with his uneasiness as well. Considering how he almost accidentally blew Sheppard and O'Neill out of the sky, who could blame him?
Re: How did you get into McWeir? « Result #9 on Apr 1, 2005, 4:55pm »
Sometime before The Eye, because I was already looking for signs of the relationship by the time I watched it. I'd always noticed how much Rodney respected Elizabeth, so it just seemed to fit.

1. I think it will, if nothing else, as McKay being in love with her, even if it is unrequited.
2. I think we won't get anything more than hints for the next season, but by season 3 we'll be well into the show, the characters will be well established and have gone through some more growth, and they'll be ready to start something.
3. Right now, I think that McKay is the one with deeper feelings, but I don't think he will make the first move. Again, I'm hoping for season three.
4. The look in McKay's eyes whenever he's talking to Elizabeth, the way they communicate, the obvious friendship. And of course, what happened in the Eye. Won't go into details in case someone hasn't seen it yet, but it was definately there.
5. Deeper friendship, a breakdown of emotional walls for both of them. They're going to depend on eachother a lot.
6. This is going to be something that Elizabeth is going to have to think long and hard about. I do think she feels something for Simon, but she does seem ready to let him go. It will be dealt with before she does anything with McKay.
